HTC Desire S

The HTC Desire S was released in March of 2011. This smart phone is the successor to the HTC Desire, building on HTC’s prior technology. The major differences between the Desire S and the previous version is cosmetic, with a slightly different casing, and a lack of physical protruding buttons on the front, and another camera. Its dimensions are 115 x 59.8 x 11.6 mm, and it weighs 130 grams. The screen is a touchscreen S-LCD capacitive, which is a standard in all modern smart phones. The screen’s size is 3.7 inches, and has a display resolution of 480 x 800 at 16 million colours. It supports multi touch input, and uses accelerometers for orientation based display, supporting both horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) modes.

The HTC Desire S CPU is a Qualcomm processor clocked at 1ghz, with a separate Adreno 205 graphics processor. It has an internal storage memory of 1.1GB (although this varies with configurations), and 768MB of ram. It also possesses a microSD slot that is 2.0 compatible and allows cards up to 32GB. In terms of networks, the phone supports the standard 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, and also has blue tooth. Its primary camera is 5 mega pixels with still image capture resolutions up to 2592 x 1944 pixels, and an HD video capture resolution of 720p at 30 fps. The front facing camera is VGA at 1.3 mega pixels. The camera features include auto focus, an LED flash, face detection, geo tagging, and image stabilization.

The HTC Desire S battery type is a rechargeable lithium ion battery, with a capacity of 1400 milliamp per hour. This battery can last up to 390 minutes when on a 3g network, and 400 on GSM (the European standard of global communications). If left on standby, it lasts between 340-360 hours. It also supports USB tethering with its micro usb port, which allows other devices to share the phone’s internet service.

The phone’s operating system is Android Gingerbread 2.3. This OS features a main desktop display screen, with sub desktops that are similar to iPhone’s iOS. App icons are laid out into columns and rows, with the ability to thumb slide to other desktops. It also features a frequently used apps section for quicker more efficient use. It comes loaded at factory default with the android market, web browser, email, camera app, and a weather/clock widget on the primary display.
